1954 Jan 19 report continued Jan 19 interesting articles from the State Champion taken from the Ceder [sic] Rapids Gazett [sic] Mrs Casand concluded with Chapter 3 from The Study Book on Alcoholism or Abstinence The Secretary was instructed to write a letter to The Grinnell Herald Register a protest to a Liquor add [sic] being published in our local paper. A Motion made Instructing our Treasuer [sic] to pay into The Frances Willard Lillian Stevens Legisative [sic] and Light Line fund for our President Mrs McBlain Eva M Pepoon Sect. Feb 16 Feb 16- 1954 (clipping) W.C.T.U. Group Observes Frances Willard Day Frances Willard Day was observed by the local W. C. T. U. Tuesday afternoon in the home of Mrs. A. C. Jones. Sixteen attended the meeting. Miss Willard's life was reviewed by Mrs. A. W. McBalin [sic] showing she was one of the original organizers of both the national and world W. C. T. U. organizations which now operate in 16 countries of the globe. She served as president of both for several years. An outstanding educator and lecturer, she is the only woman to be honored by having a statue in Statuary hall in the national capitol. Miss Willard also is the only woman so far to have had her picture on a postage stamp. Recognition service for new members was held and the white ribbon bows were presented. Eight new and re-instated members have been received so far this year. Mrs. C. Raffety [sic] lead the devotions, using as her theme "Moral Fiber". Mrs. R. Cosand gave "The American Way" and Mrs. G. Ewing presented and article on "A New Name". W.C.T.U. meet [sic] at Mrs Clint Jones. 16 members present and one guest present Mrs Courand Opened the meeting By prayer Mrs Rafferty had charge of devotions Reading Daniel 3-13:18 Moral Fiber, Followed by Singing Dare to be A Daniel. Mrs McBlain explained how our $1,00 duse [sic] were use [sic] Mrs Ewing gave an interesting aticle [sic] on A New name for an Old Evil Mrs Causand gave the American Way of Life, Our Founding Fathers fighting Cursades [sic] By the W.C.T.U. Unions. Mrs McBlain gave the Book Review On the Life of Francis Willard The Origination Of the Womans Temperance Unions Both Local and National Mrs Rafferty told of meeting Mrs. Francis Willard at a meeting in Yankton S Dak. The President appointed Mrs Clint Jones, Chairman of Spiritual Life. Recognition Services were conducted By Mrs McBlain and Mrs Cosand for Mrs Ewing and Mrs Garrigan Each receiving the White Ribbon Bow Secretary report read and approved A card was read from Our Corresponding Sect. Bertha Barker praising Our Union for useing [sic] the Tempranse [sic] Combination Bookmarkers and Rules for our project Treasuer [sic] reported a Bal 27.47 Meeting closed with The Aronic [sic] Benidiction [sic] Eva M. Pepoon Sec.
