The local WCTU was invitated to the Institute led by Mrs Isophene Saffy, state V-pres. and Mrs.Bertha Hitchock, recording Secretary at the Friends Church at Marshalltown on Tues May 16, 1961. The following attended: Mrs. Lela Adams, Mrs Sybil Renaud, Mrs Rose Walker, Miss Nellie Lincoln, Mrs Eva Pepoon, Mrs. Rachel Mikel, Mrs. Edith Lynch, Mrs. ____ Allen, Mrs Kenneth Headland, Mrs. Gertude Ewing. The meeting opened and 10:00 o'clock by the state officers, the devotions were lead by Mrs Doe of the Marshalltown local. We sang some songs and gave the flag salutes. Two groups were made by counting off and we had a buzz session, talking about the various problems of the local meetings and new things different groups had done. The morning meeting was also reviewed on various issues given in the Handbook also a skit was given on the Parliamental Quiz. The meeting was closed with prayer and grace for the good noon lunch served in the Church basement. The afternoon session was opened by Mrs Hitchock at 1:30 by the group singing "How De Do Neighbor" the devotions on "Faith" were led by Mrs. Sam Morrow, with scripture from ______ and several readings and a prayer, she and Mrs Doe sang a duet to close the devotions singing "What a Friend We Have in Jesus." A skit "On Getting In the Dues" was given. Each local meeting, not in a county organization is to send in $2.00 to help pay on the expenses of the travel expense of the two state officers, the collection of $14.20 was also to be used on the expences. The "Friendship Membership" for children between the ages of 5-12 was explained and several present ordered the 'Young Crusader' @ 60 c[ents] per year to be sent to a child, their yearly dues of 10 c[ents] each to be paid to the local treasurer, so credit could be given to each local. Total attendance was 53. The meeting closed at 3:00 PM with 'circle prayer' Rachel Mikel, Sec'ty.
