363 Mable Morgan reviewed the following leaflets for the program "Parliamentary Pow Wow" "Ten Reasons, Why to hold an Institute" "Presenting a WCTU speech Contest" "We had an Institute" "Everybodys talking - about social freedom" honor your guests by servering fruit drinks at social gathering! Mrs McBlain encourages us to "Keep on Keeping on" Mrs Allee told us of an Institute held in Grinnell 41 years ago, when her daughter was a speaker. Mrs McBlain closed the meeting with Prayer. Vice Pres - Mrs Thompson Secty - Rachel Mikel WCTY Family, Guest Night Well Attended 1961 The WCTU family and guest night was well attended Tuesday, Oct. 17, when they met at the Christian church. Following the bountiful carry-in supper, Miss Eloise Keister presided at the business meeting. She introduced the Rev. Stephen Epler, who led in the devotional period, pointing out that each person needs self-control to refrain from taking the first drink and doing other harmful things. He closed his remarks with prayer. A report of the 87th State convention held at Pella in September was given. The Rev. Emma Arnold of Rhodes was elected state president of the Women's Christian Temperance Union. At the convention it was urged that the state enact legislation requiring chemical tests for drinking drivers and that legislation banning the advertising of alcoholic beverages be supported. The Rev. Ralph Houghton, Mrs. Houghton and daughter sang special numbers, and Mr. Houghton read Matthew 3:3 for a scripture lesson. He pointed out that Christ raised his voice and hand when he cleansed the temple, so the members of the WCTU should raise their voices against alcoholic beverages. The W.C.T.U met Nov 21, 1961 with Mrs Eva Pepoon with 14 Ladies present. Meeting opened with the Hymn O Master Let Me Walk with Thee Mrs Bessie Allen had the devotions using the Scripture Mar 12-28-34 Theme - Love Thy Neighbor with special emphasis on the 1st commandment we must Love with Heart, Soul, Mind and Strength The Pres Eloise Kiester presided over the Business session. Pledges to the Flags were given Roll Call - Fact on "Narcotics Minutes of Sept meeting, and Oct Family night meeting we read and approved after correction. Mrs Geo C. Renaud had the program Themes - Peace and narcotics Eloise Kiester spoke on effectual neighbors One should have concern and interest in his fellowman. If we love our neighbors as ourselves we will strive to understand their problems and help them. Peace in a nation is only to be found as there is love in the heart of individuals. She quoted from Oslinger some facts and statistics on Narcotics. We are defeating the cruelest enemy that exists There has been a decrease in the use of Narcotics in young addicts. She spoke of the Federal Bureau of Narcotics set up 30 years ago, and of the dangers the agents endure in seeking the source where narcotics are obtained.
