377 The executive committee and department heads met on Aug. 2 with Mrs. Thompson, president. Eloise Keister presiding. Plans for the next meeting were discussed. The annual reports were competed with the following information recorded - 4 Union Signal subscriptions 1 Young Crusader subscriptions 9 petitions send (300 signers) 50 lines of publicity in local paper. 1 delegate attended state convention at Cedar Rapids 30 used spectacles send to "New Eyes for the Needy" 1 bedside basket given Used greeting cards sent to Formosa 12 Temperance song books for boys & girls given to Sunday Schools. 1 film shown at Family night (40 present) 218 calls on sick or shut-ins 22 cards sent 19 letters to legislators 5 honorary members 39 members 7 members teaching in Sunday School 60 leaflets given to church schools. W.C.T.U. met on August 20 at the home of Mrs. Vera Ziegenmeyer. Those attending were guests of Mrs. Manzel Bailey and her daughter, Carol Sammons, who served a lovely dessert lunch. Mrs. Epler, who presided at the meeting, extended thanks to the hostess for the lunch. The usual monthly offering was received, and flag salutes given in concert. Mrs. Reedy led the devotions, using Psa. 90 and concluding with the Lord's Prayer. The program topic was "Home and Family Affairs." Leader was Mildred Jones. She read Deut - 6:29 and stressed the fact that a good home is based upon love and discipline, and that old-fashioned homes had "Fun in Family Life." This fact was confirmed by a number of personal testimonies given by members present who had enjoyed such homes during their experience. The concluding thought was the importance of family devotions as a bond of fellowship in the home as well as an influence upon its members. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. The secretary read a report of the executive committee held on Aug. 2. Treasurer reported a balance of $25.96. Mrs. Eva Pepoon conducted the installation of the following affairs for the coming year: Co-Presidents, Mrs. Harvey Mikkel and Lela Adams; Vice-Presidents, Mrs. Stephen Epler; (over)
