380 The W.C.T.U. met on Feb. 17, 1964 with Mrs. Chas. Taylor, Mrs. Adams presiding. After pledges to the three flags, Mrs. Sevenbergen led in devotions; using as her subject - "Thy Neighbor as Thyself." Scripture selected was John 12:20-36. Frances Willard was cited as a Crusader. Her vision, faith and courage challenge us to follow her example of loving service. Devotions concluded with prayer. Minutes of last meeting were read and approved. 24 calls and 16 cards sent to sick or shut-ins were reported. The treasurer reported a balance of $30.00 She mentioned the contribution of $7.00 to the memorial fund for Mrs. Epler, this being given to the Christian church memorial fund. Several linens were shown by Mrs. Pepoon and it was suggested that we bring other pieces to be sent to the Benedict Home in Des Moines. Used greeting cards were also to be brought to send to Formosa. Mention was made that the Union Signal was being sent again to the same missionary recommended by Mrs. Epler the year before, under the Light Line plan. Mrs. Adams conducted a Frances Willard quiz. She also urged us to get new members in order to "hold the line, and add nine." Mrs. Pepoon gave a legislative committee report concerning two bills on smoking as a health hazard and the need of putting warning on packages. She reviewed a meeting of the National Temperance and Prohibition Council and the efforts in the other nations, also the narcotic drugs report from Washington D.C. on the results of smoking. A discussion followed. Mrs. Adams told of an entry in the inter-collegiate oratorical contest to be held in Ames on April 10. Eloise Keister was appointed to contact the program on the subject - "Our Field - Public Sentiment." She stressed the need for new organizations of W.C.T.U., Y.T.C. or L.T.L., as being promoted by the Willard Memorial fund, and the need of a new moral code as urged by the spiritual life and character educative departments. She said that traffic authorities are urging stiffer penalties for drunken drivers. Eloise Keister reviewed from the study book on the subject - "Smoking and Physical Endurance". She quoted from leading athletes who stated that smokers show lack of physical endurance and weakened morals. Meeting closed with prayer by Bessie Alexander. Her subject was "Open my Eyes, O Lord, using the scripture 2 Tim. 3;16, 17. She read the meditation from the Union Signal and the prayer. We then sang the song - "Send the Truth." All enjoyed a
