382 Motion made and carried that $10.00 be sent in on the budget dollars, also $1.00 to the Narcotic Education Fund, and $2.00 for Institutes. A conference to be held in Pella on April 28 was mentioned, and some planned to attend. Current projects were discussed. 24 calls and 2 cards were reported. The use of filmstrips in youth services was suggested by Mrs. Mikkel, a further report to be given later. A letter from Congressman John Kyle was read by Mabel Morgan. Meeting was dismissed with prayer by Mrs. McBlain. W.C.T.U. met with Mrs. Claude Thompson on May 19, 1964,Mrs. Mikkel presiding. We were led in devotions by Eva Gregson. Eloise Keister presented the lesson from the study book on the subject - "Smoking and Gangrene." She mentioned the increase in coronary heart disease due to smoking, and its effect upon the tissues, eyes, voice box, digestive organs, etc. Edna Hotchkin was the program leader on the subject - "Dimensions in Family Living." She spoke concerning the place of the children in a Christian family. Minutes were read and approved. Mrs. Mikkel gave a brief report on the Pella conference. We discussed the possibility of getting filmstrips for V.B.S. and also for the next meeting. 28 calls and 17 cards were reported. Meeting closed with prayer by Eloise Keister. W.C.T.U. met with Lela Adams on Tuesday night, June 16, with 15 present, 4 of which were men, this being the meeting for the honorary members. Mrs. Harvey Mikkel presided, leading us in the pledges to the flags, and songs. She directed us to 2 Cor. 12:15, 16 for devotion, and concluded with prayer. Mrs. Mikkel reported the use of filmstrips in church groups and V.B.S. with about 200 having seen these. Other items of interest were presented and comments made. Mention was made of a note of thanks for the linens sent to Benedict Home. we then saw the filmstrip - "Why do People Drink? Why do People Abstain?" a social time and lunch was enjoyed by all. The July meeting of W.C.T.U. was conducted by the president, Mrs. Mikkel. Devotions by Mrs. Sammons. Subject - "Malice Toward None" Sybil Renaud had the lesson - "The Liquor Business is our Business". She gave several reasons why so many use liquor sociably.
