385 W.C.T.U. met with Eva Pepoon on Tues, Nov. 17, Eloise Keister presiding. After pledges to the flags, we were led in devotions by Mabel Morgan. The scripture read was Deut. 6:4-9, with meditation and prayer. Prayer was also offered for 3 members who were ill. A pamphlet - "Drink, or Think - Which?" was reviewed by Mrs. Allen. Mrs. Faye Stanley read an interesting story on "How I Stopped Smoking." The concluding chapter of the book - "Mind If I Smoke?" was presented by Eloise Keister. She related instances of hoe surgeons and others had stopped smoking and their advice to others on how to do so. It was decided to put the finished book into the library. Reported were 27 calls and 14 cards sent. Cards were signed by those present to be sent to Mrs. Fickel, Mrs. McBlain, and Mrs. Thompson. Treasurer reported $31.00 in treasury with most of the dues in. Joining hands together, the closing prayer was by Mrs. Allen. W.C.T.U. met on Dec. 15 at the home of Agnes Sage. There were 12 members present, Eloise Keister presiding. Having heard that Isaac Watts, composer of the words of the song - "Joy to the World," had used Psa. 98 as a basis for the words, we joined in singing the song. We were also told that a portion of Handel's Messiah had been re-arranged for the music of this song. Devotional theme was - "He Prepared the Way," and Eloise Keister read John 1:15-18 and 2 Cor. 5:20, followed by meditation and prayer. Bessie Alexander had charge of the program. She reviewed many interesting facts concerning the early meetings and activities of the Grinnell W.C.T.U. It was organized in 1874, and had 200 members in the area in its 25th year, 1924. Mrs. Adams sang a song. Mrs. Allen traced the history of Iowa W.C.T.U. and of its project, the Benedict Home. Business session followed. After pledges to the flags, minutes were read and approved. Reported were 31 calls and 3 cards sent. Treasurer's report showed $44.00 in treasury, including dues We were asked to write congressmen and senators about the gambling and lottery at the fair grounds. Several articles of clothing, jewelry, etc. pertaining to olden days were displayed. Anniversary cake, cookies and tea were served.
