390 W.C.T.U. met with Lela Adams on Tuesday night, June 15, with 13 present, two of which were honorary members. Rachel Mikkel presided. After songs and pledges of the flags, Mr. Harvey Mikkel read the scripture, and volunteer prayers were offered. Presented on the program were a report of the world conventions, and notice of the coming 23rd world convention in Switzerland for which we were asked to pray. Reports of death from smoking and facts concerning your and smoking. Testimonies of sports champions who do not smoke or drink were given. Recommendations from Froda Ditmer were presented and a card of thanks from Mrs. Arnold, state president, for the conference recently held here. Nellie Lincoln read a card from Mrs. McBlain's son. Mrs. Adams read a poem - "The Drunken Driver." After dismissal, a social time followed Cookies and cold drink were served by the hostess. The W.C.T.U. met at 3:00 P.M. on July 20, at the home of Nellie Lincoln, Rachel Mikkel presiding. Carol Sammons led in the devotions. Her subject was - "United we Stand." After a song, she read the scripture from Eph. 6:13, 14 and 2 Timothy 2:4,5, concluding with meditation and prayer from Union Signal. Mildred Jones presented the program. She related the experiences of two young men who became alcoholics. She stated that one-half of the high school students drink, she recommended that there by more education in the schools, that our teen-agers may have access to the truth effects of alcohol and other harmful narcotics. "While we pray for a good harvest, we should keep on hoeing." She presented an article - "Patriotism in Action," relating the experiences of various ones who were true patriots. Rachel Mikkel led in pledges to the flags. Minutes of both the May and June meetings were read and approved. Expressions of thanks were given for the cards sent to Mrs. McBlain and Mrs. Bailey. Three baskets had been delivered by Nellie Lincoln. Also reported were 21 cards sent, one legislative letter, 6 bouquets of flowers, and 31 calls made. A card to be sent to Sybil Renaud was signed at the meeting. Treasurer reported $15.75 in treasury, with 37 members having paid dues, and 25 budget dollars. The nominating committee had met and nominated the same officers for the coming year. Their report was accepted. Mention was made of the State Convention which is to be held in Cedar Falls Sept. 13-15. After the benediction, a bountiful pot-luck supper was shared and the social time greatly enjoyed.
