397 records. We were reminded to bring used greeting card. There were 3 legislative letter, 12 calls and 2 cards reported. Possible work projects were mentioned. Eloise Keister presented the program, reviewing the history of the Women's Crusade, the forerunner of the W.C.T.U. organization. She also reported on the address of the national Y.T.C. leader. Meeting was dismissed with prayer by Mrs. Allen. 1967 W.C.T.U. met with Nellie Inmon on Jan. 17, Lela Adams presiding. After we joined in song - "Some Glad Day", we were led in devotions by Eloise Keister. There was - "Be Not Weary in Well Doing." Scripture was Phil. 4:8-13. She read comments of a Presbyterian minister concerning thoughts, as having the mind of Christ, and comments from the Union Signal, concluding with prayer. Next was pledges to the 3 flags. Minutes were read and approved, and 24 cards and 19 visits were reported. We were informed of the invitations of the Malcom Union women to attend there next meeting on Feb. 7. Treasurer reported $25.00 in the treasury. Mrs. E.H. Jackson, visiting the union, told us that her mother once organized a W.C.T.U. Mention was made of the need to contribute to the Willard Memorial fund in February. Motion made and carried that the usual contribution be made to this fund, as well as to the Lillian Stevens fund, the state legislative fund, and the Light Line - a total of $14.75. Lela Adams read an article - "It is Some of My Business." Carol Sammons gave the legislative report. She mentioned bills recently considered as observed by the National Bureau og Legislation, Supreme Court decisions, press relations, and the threats in the educational world and among all young people, and concerning the research being carried on about alcohol and crime. Mable Morgan had charge of the program on the theme - "United Interest." She followed the thoughts of Mrs. Stanley, National Promotions Sec'y, who stressed the need that we show an interest in legislation and be responsible for knowing the process of legislation and how to help as a lobbyist. She also mentioned 8 things we favor in legislation. She concluded the program with observations and opinions of certain doctors on these questions - - "Is alcohol a food? Does it cause disease? Is it a narcotic? It is harmful if used in moderation? How does it affect heredity? the questions of delinquency and social environment. After some informal discussion, we were dismissed with the Aaronic benediction being repeated in unison.
