These posters should state the place, date, time, etc. of the conference. These volunteered to provide posters: Mrs. German (for Edwards Grocery); Carol Sammons (for North Market); Mrs. Allen (for Gibson's) and Lela Adams (for McDowell's - 923 Main St) Devotions will be arranged for both 10:00 A.M. and 1:15 P.M. sessions, also musical numbers. The non luncheon will be cooperative It was stated that we should pray definitely for the success of the conference. Meeting adjourned with prayer. W.C.T.U. met March 18 with Mrs. George German, 11 in attendance. Rev. Myron Harris presented as the program 2 films, one on smoking, and the other on alcohol. Carol Sammons led in the devotions. Theme was "Spiritual Insight." Business session was taken up and pledges to the flags given. The area conference is to be held here on May 20. The president read a list of the committees which were named at the last meeting. Mrs. Harris read a letter regarding the reading of the Bible by the astronauts on their trip, stating they had received many letters of criticism of the action, and urging letters of commendation be sent to them. She also told of the Dirkson bill regarding the reading of the Bible in the schools. We were asked to write our congressmen before April 1, favoring the bill. All joined hands and sang two verses of "I Need Thee every Hour." Rev. Harris closed the meeting with prayer. - Nellie Lincol, Sec'y Pro-tem. W.C.T.U. met with Mrs Harris on April 15, Lela Adams presiding. Meeting opened with song - "Advance - not Retreat." Winifred Sevenbergen led in the devotions. Her theme was - "Taking a Stand for God," using Joshua 24:1-8 and 14-18. She called attention to the failures of Israel and God's challenge to be courageous in their stand for God. Meditation and prayer from the Union Signal was presented. Pledges to the flags were repeated. Minutes of the Feb. and March meetings were read and approved. It was announced that the area conference will be held at the First Friends Church on May 20 with registration at 9:30 A.M. Morning meeting will be at 10:00 A.M., and after the cooperative dinner, will meet again at 1:15. The means of advertising were discussed and parts for a play given out. Lela Adams read a letter from Rachel Mikkel. Carol Sammons reported on legislation, with particular concern for the matter of having prayer in the schools.
