410 dollar. We talked about election of officers. A letter from Frances Sojoke for more people to subscribe for the national magazine. Cecil Roberts also wrote and asked us, with the help of Malcom W.C.T.U., to have the state convention next year. We decided we couldn't because we are all over 40 years, and there would be too much responsibility. Lela Adams will call Malcom. We discussed going to the sate convention in Earlham, Iowa - Sept. 22-24. Chosen for nominating committee were Fidelia German, Nellie Lincoln and Eloise Keister. Mildred Jones presented the program about "Our Nation's Heritage," saying it takes faith and courage to live in our country. Most children want to be disciplined. Many demand freedom. Some are not sure what they want. Gave 16 freedoms. Special guests were Mrs. Jeane Adams, Hazel Lincoln and Mrs. Jones' two grandchildren. Closed with "Blest Be the Tie that Binds." Eloise prayed for our dismissal. We had our picnic at 4:30 P.M. - - Carol Sammon, Sec'y Pro-tem W.C.T.U. met at Mildred Jones' home Tues, Aug. 19, seven members present, Lela Adams presiding. Nellie Lincoln led in devotions - "Who do People say that I am?" Minutes of last meeting were read by Carol Sammon and approved. Treasurer reported $18.00 Report of nominating committee. Moved unanimous vote for the slate was given. Letter was read from State Pres. - Cecil Roberts, giving full report of use of $3.65 dues per year. Nellie Lincoln and Carol Sammon were chosen to be a team for dues paying contest. Calls, cards and bouquets reported were about 40 in all. A memorial for Mrs. McBlain will be given at State Convention as a Thank offering. As new business, Nellie Lincoln suggested that, when a death of a member occurs we send $2.00 to State W.C.T.U., and a card, to the family telling of our memorial. Eloise Keister made this into a motion, Mildred Jones seconded it, and it carried. A "thank you" note was received from our national president for the $10.00 we sent for Pepsi for Vietnam soldiers. Any suggested items for "Shop Early" bags can be donated by each member of the W.C.T.U. as early as possible. Carol Sammons gave a talk on "Aim High." There's a need for Christians to be airborne in this day and be in "High Gear." From Aug. Union Signal - Most people are loyal citizens but shrink from responsibility. Greatest need of the people today is to have family altar. Meeting closed with pledges to all three flags.
