441 April 24, 1973 The W.C.T.U. met in the home of Myrtle Bailey and Carol Sammon. The meeting was opened by the president Eloise Keister and we all gave our three flag salutes. American, Christian and Temperance. The devotions were presented by Carol Sammon We sang "I Would be True" and the scripture was read from Second Timothy, Chapter I Verses 7-10- We should express our love to other Christians and especially to our youth. If we would pray more and show that we do have confidence in them it would do wonders God did not give us a spirit of timidity or fear but He has given us a spirit of power and of love and of calm and well-balanced mind and discipline and self-control. Lela Adams gave a report about Alcoholism. It is an illness. One out of 12 is an alcoholic. Six out seven alcoholics are well educated men between the ages of 35 and 55. Alcohol has too much sugar in it and no food value. Alcohol widens your blood vessels and veins too much Some people think that alcohol relieves loneliness and boredom, that they are braver if they have to give a speech, or perhaps the've had a fight and they drink alcohol [les?] Alcoholics need the help of ministers, doctors and "AA", or alcoholics anonymous. "AA" was started in 1934 by two recovered alcoholics After a person quits drinking he may need to find new friends. Alcohol beverages generally show a beautiful woman drinking in ads in magazines but they never show us how terrible she looks when she is drunk. Drinking effects ones judgment and then phase two a person has slurred speech and thirdly they generally are in a stupor Many times diabetics will have a shock or be in a stupor and if it even see one we should look on their wrist for a bracelet which has the word "Diabetic". Then call a doctor. Lela also read a story about a man who shot his wife when he was drunk. He said, to the jury and others. You are all guilty who voted for the saloons I voted against them. When we had no saloon I was all right." Sent 45 cards no legislatives letters and
