Corinth Miss Oct 16th 1862 Dear Father Mother Brother & Sister I am still alive and well able to eat my allowance and in very good spirits, my feet are nearly well again after our tramp we had quite a lively time runing the rebels after the fight, they say that they wer the worst whiped her that they ever wer in the west they never would own whiped before but they dont pretend to deny it this time, they threw away a large amount tents and camp equipage wagons wer left standing in the midle of the road loaded, with the harness hitched to the singletree with hame string and the mules gone evry thing indicated a big scare and well they mite for hulburt was before them and we wer pushing up their rear, it makes warm work when you get between to fires I thought that it was warm enough when we had it on one side only I tell you what it is the rebels fought with desperation even to madness as you will see by the papers and as far as I have seen the acounts are correct I dont think acounts are atall exagerated this time, at least as far as I have seen, I received the the Hawk Eye of the 11th day before yesterday, I think that it made good time, I get it the most of the time
