Dubuque Iowa Apr 21st 1887 My dear Nephew, 887271 I sent you yesterday a copy of the Annals of Iowa containing a biographical sketch of myself written by my old friend & published by the Edr another old friend who has been writing & urging me to write an autobiography which I resested as I have to others for years. Perhaps it may interest some of your children. Our mutual & my ever faithful & most efficient friend Hon J K. Graves has "confidentially informed me that he & a few others friends have contributed to redeem this our homestead which was sold under a foreclosure of the mortgage which covered it. The year for its redemption will expire day after tomorrow. This unexpected & unasked for act of generosity & benevolence has not only gratified me but has overwhelmed me with a sense of the most profound gratitude which no words can properly express I
