11 Senate MsL J77do Purchase 1961 Mineral Point Iowa [South? Wisconsin?] March 30th 1844 Hon Henry Dodge MC Dear Gen. Accompanying this I inclose your, at his request, an application from Charles Tho.s Legate, for admission into the Navy of the U.S. or Midshipman - He is the son of our excellent neighbour & good democratic friends Charles Legate Esq. & is, I assure you Governor, in every particular mostly of your kind consideration & influence in his behalf. His father is now out of business which is one great reason why his son Charles is so anxious to join the Navy - and which has long been a great [desiderative?] with him. Mr Legate is a young gentleman of unexceptionable character, amiable, intilligent & very attentive to business. I have no hesitation in vouching for his faithful performance of any duty which may be assigned to him should his application be favourably recd at Washington A line to him in reply or myself will be thankfully received. Your friend, Geo. W. Jones
