Dubuque Iowa Sept 9, 1855 My dear Gov. I have read with great satisfaction your letter of the 27th Ultimo & was greatly relieved. I assure you to find that I had not given you offence in publishing extracts from your two preceding letters. They breathed such pure feelings of patriotism & were so well calculated to inspire others with like opinions that I could not refrain from giving them to the light.
