Sep 23 1920 shall be first to exercise the rights of franchise are the direct beneficiaries of patriotic service and sacrifice of the champions of woman suffrage in the era just closed, and - Where as - fitting evidence of the gratitude and appreciation of the women of the present generation for the light and inspiration of those bearers of the torch should be transmitted to future generations - and Where as there is no system of expression known to experience or in history that so nearly illustrates or so surely perpetuates memorial thoughts as do symbolic forms 'thro' the methods and media of sculptured art - and Whereas, our state provides ideal placement upon the capitol grounds for works of memorial art - and whereas that we may produce a memorial in same. A committee composed of Miss Lawter, Mrs. Mayer and Mrs. Devitt reported and moved the adoption of the following section to be added to Bylaw I. The State Chairman of each com. shall have power to appoint a chairman of her com. in each congressional district. The county League of W.V. shall be the unit of organization and shall elect a county chairman of each committee. This ammendment was carried. Election of officers resulted as follows. Mrs. Walter Brown of Des Moines for State Chairman. Dr. Kate Harpel of Boone as vice chairman. Mrs. H.S. Van Alstine Gilmore City Rec.Sec. Mrs. John Denison of Des Moines Cor. Sec. Mrs. Sadie Passig of Humboldt as Treasurer.
