our minds. That every womans organization should do all in its power to aid in framing, enacting, and enforcing better laws for women and children. At present the women and children's bureau at Washington receives 1/10 the sum spent on Animal Industry. Mrs. Devitt wants to see women in The "Board of Control" Women in the Board of Education and at least one woman Commissioner of Industry. Dr. Margaret Mills of Ottumwa - Chairman of Social Hygiene, gave a well prepared written report that is worth of a place in the records of the league of Women Voters, and should be read before womens clubs over the state, because of the startling conditions it reveals. Dr. Mills attended an international gathering in Switzerland during the summer and reports health conditions deplorable in European countries. One third of officers and and men unfit for service because of venereal disease while letters of inquiry reveal only 34% clean. Venereal disease doubled the first year after the war. Ninety five percent of prostitutes were unclean while 75% percent of them are feeble minded. Dr. Mills recommends women in the police force. She says 10,000 women pass thro' the police courts of Detroit every year and no women in the police force. Adjourned to 2 P.M. The Women in Industry Luncheon at Yonkers Tea Room was a happy occassion, made memorable by the presence of Harriet Taylor [Upton?] of Olive. After the opening of the afternoon session Mrs. Blythe of Mason City was introduced to speak for the Republican party. Miss Ann [Larthern?] followed as champion for the Democratic Party.
