Wednesday evening session was called to order promptly at 8 o'clock Mrs.Pierce presiding in the absence of Mrs Oscar Ruff, introduced Governor Kendall, the devoted friend of the Iowa League of Women Voters who gave the following inspiring greeting. One of the pleasantest instances of this office that I occupy is the opportunity that I have had occasionally to come into the presence of earnest and thoughtful women of our State. I remember with a great deal of satisfaction the occasion of the regional meeting held in this room, perhaps last year. I think we may well despair of democratic government if the refining influence of the women of our country cannot be exerted to elevate the ideals of our citizenship. I think I am not more pessimistic than the situation warrants but I must confess that the American level of thought is not as advanced as it should be.
