Co. O Induction Center Fort Des Moines, Iowa Oct, 9, 1941 Dear Evelyn: Well, I sure was lucky, I passed. And tonight I'm spending a quiet evening in the barracks. We just got back from the Canteen about five minutes ago and all the fellows are talking about is their women and believe me, I don't blame them any, The more we talk about the army the more we wish that we were women. Ha Ha. But were are here and we got to like it. We got here about 4:30 yesterday. We had supper about five and then sat on our beds and talked until nine. Then it was bed time. I had a pretty good nights sleep although it wasn't the best. I thought about you since I got off the bus. There is a dance tonight but I didn't think I could stand it.
