July 8, 1943 Dear Evelyn, You are definately on the beam. I received all three of your letters and the match-case too. I really like it because it is a handy little gadget and because it is from "you." When I opened the package, the guys all stood around with eager eyes. They thought that you were sending the ring back - I fooled them. It is very nice and I want to thank you very much. I was going to write last night, but we went out to the firing-range and didn't get back till 3:00 AM. Then I was too tried. I didn't get up till 11:00 this morning and by that time the mail was here. [missing text]
