our raincoats and slept. There were a lot of rattle snakes at Burrs Ferry. Killed them right up by the Kitchen. Swam the Sabine River once into Texas. We were off Thurs. afternoon so I and some of the fellows went off to see the Country. We started about 2 pm hitchhiking. Went down thru Newton Texas. Merryville, DeRidder, Leesville La and were back by midnite. Went over 100 miles. It still was walking and riding like I'm used to but on a lot different roads. We've walked on these dustycouldn't see 100 yds in front of you. Moved down to here yesterday and guess we leave tomorrow. Hear we are roads with the dust 6" deep and you going over into Texas and down by Beaumont. Sure hope so. Cause
