5/9/42 Sat a.m. Dearest: You will remember that I had said I would write you Wed evening as to what happened to me. Well it took Wed, Thurs, Fri, for it to happen. I've been under army orders since Wed a.m. You can't do anything until they tell you you can. Finally, they came to the conclusion, after I had sat around three days, that they weren't ready for us yet. I was ordered to report again this afternoon but only to have more papers prepared. I sent you the telegram as soon as I could yesterday. I was so darn disappointed about not being able to come today...but
