Tuesday, June 30 [1942] Dearest: Do you remember the fortuneteller, Marie Shaffer? She got on my bus this morning and asked to see my "marriage ring"; she said she had a feeling I should have it by now - well, so have I! She asked to see your picture and wanted to know if you have a mustache! She thinks you are handsome - so do I. What I like about her is the way she always wants to talk about you. However she has one refrain: we're going to be married and you are coming back to me unhurt. But she keeps insisting
