I shall defy him one of these days and he'll collapse like a pricked balloon. I'm becoming very brave with you at my side! I never defied him because I never met anyone worth putting up a fight for. It's different now! Just the same, I'm glad we are going to live in Wyandotte. Mother says she knows him better than I do and that he'll be all right once we're safely married. I think so, too. I believe he even has himself fooled about his ferocity.
