ly, when you said you were not aware of a rocky detour; because if you were not displeased with me then I must be imagining things, and I'd hate to be one of those women who are always suffering from imaginary grievances. I turn toward the sun of approval like a flower, and I sensed disapproval from you. You didn't sound as if you were joking when you said it (about the "option") in the station and your eyes didn't look it, either. But I didn't say anything because - like you - I shrink from anything resembling a quarrel. The nearest I come to it is to go into my room and either sob or sulk myself out of it and by the time I come out I'm convinced I was to blame & I apologize. More
