Sparta Wis Dec 24 - 1856 Dear Brother I again take pen in hand to write but i feel that i have so long neglected it that i feell ashamed to begin - we are all well at present and have all had good health the last summer except little William he had the diaree all Summer caused by teething but is not fat and harty an a heavier boy of his age is not easy found i suppose you have heard that that i have been married since i wrote to you and i don't hesitate to say that i was directed by Providence in making a choice for a stepmother and partner for she is kind and careful with the children and posesed of more forebearance than the most of women now i suppose you will think that i am blowing but i speak the truth and nothing more. the children all love her, and are ready to do what she requires of them it is near ten months since I was married She was a widow with no children about 28 year of age formerly of Indiana - by the name of Hanah Marshall i am still following the harness business Simpson has worked in shop last sumer the three oldest children are going to school to martha kirk and mary simpson things here are about the same as when you were here
