Sparta Ill Saturday November 19 - 1859 My dear unckle I take my pen and ink in hand to inform you that wee are all well at present and I hope that you are all the same. I am going to school in basement of the church to george Simpson granpap is a liveing in his new house now he seems to be very much pleased with it he is well at present Johny commence this letter & got me to finish it - Wee have long looked for a letter from you but none arrives have you forgot to write times here are verry dull money scarce health is verry good We have had fine weather till the last 2 days has been wet we are looking for John McDill home now There has come to town within a month 1 drugist from burlington iowa set up a large drug store also 2 silver smiths 2 new tin & stove store 1 grocery store 1 new baker shop There are 3 large schools & the seminary with about 50 schollars horses are held as high as ever none selling Davids health is quite poor your father is quite Jolly reads from morning to night and back again we are all wondering what you did with your promise about riting when you got home as no letter has reached here yet from you Jane McDill Samuels & Lizys daughter is maried to preacher Taylor a (Methodist)please rite me soon i remain yours H S Clendenin
