modification which I have made - you may rest assured that he does not want to buy, and that he is only making these offers in order to keep possession of the place -- and I now renew my request of you that if he does not close the bargain forth with and make the 1st payment according to the terms before offered - of $100 down and and the ballance in yearly payments as before proposed - dating from the 1st of January 1864, drawing ten percent from date, - that you direct him to have the property and accrue the rent as before directed - and if you have not spoken to Mr Porter about taking care of it as proposed -- you will please to see old Mr Chapman and see if he will take care of it on the terms I have proposed - as he has no relatives he would not be troubled by them wanting to occupy the place as would likely be the case if it were in Mr Porter's care -- I hope you will be able to make sale of the place to Hasford or some one else -- In the mean time I wish you to pay my tax, even if you have to borrow the money -- If you have not paid it already -- this is an item I want you by all means to attend to promptly -- for I may loose my tax title if it is not paid as soon as due -- We are all well, Please let me hear from you so soon as you have concluded the business with Mr Hasford -- remember it is no use for him to expect that I will make another proposition to him, accept this or leave -- is what you are to tell him -- I will send you his line to me which I wish you to keep in your own hands -- Yours, R. N. Free P.S. You need not let him read this (rest upside down)
