got about half through the letter the tears would come in spite of me, & I felt you understood me better than I thought you did, for I had no idea that you could tell from my letter that I felt sadly. I am truly sorry I cannot keep from feeling gloomily, but I do assure you there is always a cause, although I cannot always tell what it is, But I am going to try to look more on the bright side of every thing, & then “Away with melancholy” But even your letter which I prize so highly made me feel a little sadly, & it was this, You seem to think I am too timid to say anything about love, or to acknowledge that I really know what it is. Now do let me tell you that you are greatly mistaken, I do know experimentally what it is yet like you I cannot define it, but when a lady tells a gentleman she is willing to trust her happiness with him & whithersoever he wills, to go with him I think she…
