[August 1943, postmarked August 25] Tuesday night My dearest: Just arrived back from a flight to Winfield Kansas, Thats Strother Field. Left here Monday. (yesterday). Another one of those “tired out” evenings. You just dont feel like anything. Four hours sleep last night; and still I had to be on the alert this morning and ready to fly. We had corn on the cob here twice as I recall. I like it but it is not one of my favorites. I expect you’ll always have the extra share of that delicacy. I’ll spoil you in this one thing (just
