[September 1943, postmarked Sept. 18] Dearest: Back in San Marcos, again. I imagine that you are plenty confused by this time .... even more than I. We got a little ways on the way to Salt Lake City when we were ordered back. The hurricane has been hovering over the Gulf and isn't expected here until tomorrow morning. Then I'll leave tonight for Salt Lake City and from there I am ordered to proceed to California. I have a
