Friday 9/17/43 My dearest: I am still on the flight line. That hurricane is expected about 2 p.m. We will soon be taking off. Motors are roaring; everything that can fly is going. About four a.m. all those ships on which only one motor (of the two) would run limped off to a safer place. Yesterday afternoon flight after flight of fighter planes came up from the south; refueled, got a navigator for the flight and fled on. A group of lumbering Catalina flying
