Friday 1 April 1943 My dearest: I wonder what I wrote you last night! I was so tired that I doubt whether you could read what I wrote. Yesterday I was down on the Flight Line when two planes collided. One was coming in and another was taking off, supposedly on a higher and farther away level. I don't know exactly what happened but they hit each other about 500 feet up. They burst into flames at once .... even before striking the ground. There wasn't a chance for the pilots or Navigator and so three good men were lost. There have
