Tuesday 1 June (1943) Dearest: Today is payday ... it's a precious little bit compared to what I used to get ... at that I am saving a part of it every month. You said you would move your guess as to the end of the war up a year. Where does that put it? Here's how I figure it. Italy will be out of the war by September - - - later at 10:10pm Back from a surprise flight up north - - not very far north. I'm mighty tired as my writing probably shows.
