Des Moines Iowa Oct.20th 1866 Dear Aunt. It is sunday morning and very rainy and disegreeable out and I thought I could not pass the time better than writing to you. Des Moines is very dull business is lighter this fall than I ever knew it to be in Des Moines Merchant with large stocks are hardly selling enough to pay there expenses. We have had a very pleasant fall and I think that has had some thing to do with the trade for persons are not going to buy any winter goods
