Watertn Sept. 28th 1862 Hon S. J. Kirkwood Gov. Iowa Dear Sir: The [illegible] Doct Lathrop a citizen of Cedar Falls in this county is desirous of obtaining the position of Assistant Surgion in the army. he would like an apptment in the 3d Reg. If you can give the Doctor the position desired by him or in any other Regiment it will be considered a favor conferred not only upon him but fully appreciated by his many Friends in this County. As a Man and a Physician he stands deservedly well in the Community. When he resides I would add my own request to the many recommendations which he has now and will present to you for consideration Truly Yours S. Bagg
