March 1864 general Baker sir the people here have advised me to state my circumstances to you and it may be that you can have something dun to help me I am Mrs Mary E Bruce wife of J R Bruce of Co F Fourth Iowa Infantry he sent me two dollars last July and I have not had one cent since have had nothing to eat or wear only as my nabours brought it to m I have a family to do for some of them sick the most of the time I lost two children afews weeks ago the oldst and youngest could you send me some mony and have it taken out of my hubands pay for he
