Answer Let Book Mch 10/64 Mrs. Mary E Bruce, Winterset, Madison Co, Iowa Winterset Iowa March 1864 Address Bruce, Mrs Mary E wants money sent to her and taken out of her husbands wages Recd March 10/64 ansd " " " Adjt Genls Office, Davenport Iowa, Mch 10th 1864. I have no control over U.S. soldiers pay. It is is his own to do with as he pleases. He should provide for you but if he doesnt I cannot force him to do so. The only way is persuasion and his wife & children ought to have a more powerful influence with him than me. He is now home I presume, having re-enlisted as a veteran. Persuade him. Yours Truly A. B.
