Ghost Boone Co Boonsboro May 8th 1864 Hon. Wm M. Stone, Gov. of Iowa Sir: Capt. J. B. McCall of the 3rd Iowa infantry will be an applicant for the position of Col. of one the new regiments. As you are personally acquainted with Capt. McCall, and know the manner in which he has discharged his duties since he entered the Co. P. service, it is unnecessary for us to say more than that his appointment would give [unbridled?] satisfaction to the [illegible] people of this county. We have sent a commendatory letter to you for Capt. C. W. Williams
