December 26th/64 Adjutant General of the State of Iowa Dear Sir, Being in some what of a dilemma and knowing your willingness to aid Iowa Soldiers I write you for instruction. I was enlisted May 20th/61 and Mustered into Co K 5th Regiment; Iowa Inftry Vols at Burlington Iowa July 15th /61 where remained untill November 25 of 63. At the Battle of Missionary Ridge was taken prisoner, removed to Bell Island and there remained untill the 15th of March /64. from there was transported to Andersonville where lost my left hand and arm below the elbow from Andersonville was removed to Savannah the 15th of November and after being paroled
