Jan. 16, 1884. When I look back over my journal I laugh to my self at the wording and the expressions there in. As I write [I?] see the boys and [girls?] coasting. It seems so odd how I ever found enjoyment in their society. Emma Allen has just been down to see me. I was astounded to see her and not very pleased either. She did very well for a time but I have other companions that I like better. She tells me Prof. Burns is expecting an [addion?] to his faimly. I should think he had as many to support as he is capable of doing. Yesterday I went over to Mrs. Daugherty's to get the inetial [W.?] for Annie. [W?] lute [illegible] was there Mrs Brockway from the country and Mrs. L. O. Brindley came in. They were going over to Mrs. [Slocher?] to see some paintings she has so Willie, Maud, K [A?} Quinn and I went with them. Two of the
