Jan 2[8?], 1884, I am going to the dance tomorrow night with Mr. [illeg.]. He sent me a note, I believe it was Thursday asking if I would, I accepted. I [want?] the awfullest looking note in return. It [illeg.] on some of Clara's this [paper?] and it was not mulled so it looked horrid. My dress is just lovely, [sis?] [put?full?] the lace on Sat. It is oreintal lace. I have sent to Mrs. [illeg.] [illeg.] for white [illeg.] gloves. eight button lingth. Thursday eve Dell and I went to the rink and Leigh Wallace brought us home. That night or rather 2 o'clock the next morning the south east corner of the square burned down. We lost one building which was worth about $400. It was papa's alone. In the big fire [out?] [He?] went [sick? such?] the "[furin?]" lost one building worth about $200. I went to the [last?] fire but it was almost burned down when I got there. Then [were?] [ruin?] buildings burned, but dogs and a cat. I felt so bad about Mr. [Camels?] little dog. They would probably have saved almost all of the buildings but the engine [illeg]
