We wanted to beat them there so we took to the road and ran, but they beat. I skate with [Matt?] Waide we tried to skate the Dutch R [illeg.] but we could not do it very well because [sis?] had to turn so much. He said he was coming to this opening of [its?] new rink and we would try it again. I think, or rather they think it will open the 11th of Feb. Charlie Patterson brought me home. When we got a far as [Doughrahg's?] I saw a man laying in the snow by the walk. I told Charlie and he said he would freze if he laid there, [We?] Heard Mart Miller coming out of D's so we called him and told him about it. Charlie took me home and then they went back while I stood at the gate and listened. I heard them talk to him quite a while and tell him would freze to death, so suppose he was drunk. Al Holt asked Belle P. to go to the dance tomorrow night at the rink. Had a terrible time to get hold of her.
