July 11, /84. Clara has been home nearly five weeks and is going to Moline tonight. Papa went fishing this morning and as we sent the girl (Julia Brannon) away, Mamma and I will be alone. Miss Stewart is sewing for us now. We went to Chicago to meet Clara. We had to go [illeg.] weeks before she came so that I could be examined for [Vasser?]. I passed in Geography + U.S. History but I will have to be examined in Arithmetic + Grammer again. I had such a sore thumb while I was there that I did not enjoy myself very much and it made it hard for me to write at the examination. We staid at J. R. Davis. Willie Daugherty was married
