12/18/43 Saturday nite My dearest: I was just musing how much a wife must be to her betrothed. Sweetheart, Wife, Mother and Sister! So Much. And I fear her mate is so little to her. I'd give a lot if I could just lay my head on your shoulder, feel your soft hand caress my brow ever so gently, and half-sleep forever. I think of you; my heart and muscles leave their tautness and the whirling of my mind solving its million little problems ceases. I relax, I feel the warmth of you beside me. And the darkness dissolves into a kaladeoscopic tintinnabulation of multi-color light motes and little tinkling chimes ring a silver-frosted background to mellow golden-toned fluttering notes of a flute. And all deep and far-away in the underground
