Willametta Turneseed 202 Roseland East Springfield, Ohio Letter #466 Thurs,8/17/44 Dearest: Take warning! Yesterday I spent the afternoon cooking - today mother is ill! It may have been the heat; but it may also have been the capers in the stuffed tomatoes. I did have a good supper: Salmon croquettes, potatoes O'Brien, (that's boiled potatoes diced and then nicely browned in a skillet with onions and peppers) deviled eggs, stuffed tomatoes and iced tea. The tomatoes are hollowed out, and to the pulp you add chopped celery, a few capers, chopped peppers (red), and flaked salmon. There are lots of combinations possible; this one didn't exactly follow the recipe. For me, it seems recipes are merely a point of departure. The oftener I cook the less I follow them, but when I've been away for a while I pay more attention to them. I was thinking about my dream Kitchen. For one thing sinks and work tables will be 6 to 10" inches higher than standard; this will involve arguments with the workman, probably. Also I insist on at least four times more work space than any Kitchen I've ever seen provides. When I work I work!
