At One oclock the regiment was ordered to cross the North Ann river, however it was not accomplished - 1st owing to the water being deep and II the Johnnies were on the other side shooting at us. Just before dark a heavy shower of rain fell. Wednesday 25th Heavy musketry firing began at 6.30 this morning, and by 8.30 the battle was on, during which our loss was:
