84 Front of Petersburg, Va. Wednesday July 27th 1864 Received orders this morning to be ready to move at 9 oclock, but did not march until One P.M., when we marched to the left flank and halted about 4 oclock, in a regular wilderness of small pines (Pine trees) Soon after the regimental Quartermaster brought up shelter tents for the officers, and all the men who did not have a piece. I received two new pieces - Tents were immediately put up. I have one by myself. Thursday 28th The object of our coming here has not yet developed but as the regimental Drum Corps was sent to the Hospital it is likely we shall not have long to wait. Am quite unwell - have a high fever.
