105 Front of Petersburg, Va - Saturday August 27th 1864 Moved at 7 oclock this morning, to the right and relieved the Negro Brigade of the 9th Corps (4th Division). Some of the officers and men were drunk again. I wish there was no liquor made, I believe the army would be much better without it. Sunday 28th Received letter from sister Anna, acknowledging the receipt by father of the money I sent home also that I have given her $35.00 up to this time. viz $15 and $20 00 Monday 29th I assisted Lieut. Gechter to make out the Muster and Pay Rolls for Company "H". Bought a 3d Division, 9th A.C. badge - paid $1.50 for it.
